Mission/Bernal Heights' gallery boutique announces a show with art, fashion and design inspired by our urban landscape

San Francisco, Calif. (May 26, 2009) - Secession Art & Design invites you to celebrate art, fashion and design inspired by the city streets with a summer showing of new work from Bay Area talents. Continuing the gallery boutique’s ongoing exploration of fashion and design from independent, street, vintage and craft vantage points, the event delivers a new interpretation of the modern urban experience through a diverse collection of fine art, home wares, apparel and jewelry.

“As urban landscapes have become the new natural world, there’s a growing urban art subculture that is inspired by city life, while at the same time devoted to documenting it through mediums like graffiti and printmaking. This show allows you to bring some of that street style into your home,” says owner-curator and designer Eden Stein.

In the gallery, featured artists Furyone and Anna Simson present new works that define urban life and are, at the same time, defined by it. A first-generation San Francisco graffiti artist who’s been changing the urban landscape with his art for 25 years, Furyone makes a rare move from concrete to canvas for the show, while Simson’s layered prints showcase the complexities of the surrounding streets in a collision of abstract and realistic imagery and color.

Wearable art and accessories abound in the ever-popular Secession boutique. Highlights include a collection of urban-minded silkscreened hoodies and shirts by Oakland-based fiftyseven-thirtythree, a collision of craft and hip-hop in Nicacelly’s one-of-a-kind wearables for women, Yugala Priti’s colorful and unexpected designs drawn from the draped sarees of her youth in India, handcrafted jewelry inspired by movement from Josie Adele of Fluidance, deconstructed little girl’s clothing with modern sensibilities by Minor, and additional apparel and accessories from Ava Love, Gr.dano, Threads by Cho-Cho and Medium Reality.

Along with the featured artists and designers, the gallery boutique houses current collections from Secession Art & Design in-house designers Colleen Mauer, Heather Robinson, New Skool and Twelve Designs: Modern Vintage Jewelry. A portion of the proceeds from the show benefits Streetside Stories (www.streetside.org).
