Maureen Shields is a San Francisco based collage artist incorporating vintage, meticulously hand-cut and assembled, paper ephemera with fanciful drawn and painted elements. Her unique mixed media compositions invite the viewer into an unexpected world of fantasy. Skillfully, Maureen constructs playful themes that balance bizarre and surreal motifs with nostalgic, ordinary images. Her intention is to skew perspective by presenting peculiar complexities associated with childhood, the animal kingdom and the effects of color. Maureen was born and raised in Southern California. She earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University Long Beach and a MFA from New York University. She has exhibited nationally and extensively throughout California.
