July 14, 2016, San Francisco, CA — Secession Art & Design is excited to present Connection, our 9th anniversary show featuring painter Heather Robinson and urban quilter Amy Ahlstrom. The exhibition will be on view from July 31 to October 1, 2016 at Secession Art & Design, 3235 Mission St, San Francisco. The artists will be in attendance at the anniversary celebration on Friday, August 12, 6-9pm.
Both San Francisco artists live and breathe art, experimenting with color, pattern, and texture. Robinson’s studio is nestled in Secession, where she has been a resident for 9 years. While at the gallery you can see her process as she paints and pours gel medium through her original stencils, creating art that is alive with decorative vibrancy. Ahlstrom quilts her intricate and expressive quilts in the Bayview. Hand-quilting visual elements like graffiti or pawn shop diamonds, her muse always comes from urban walks and her photography of captured moments. Side by side, both artists play with surface and happy accidents, creating art that is full of personality.
Secession Art & Design opened our first Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson. In 2010 and 2012 through 2014, Secession was awarded Best Art Gallery by San Francisco Bay Guardian readers, for continuing to push the envelope in exhibitions and wearable art.
