Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Free Screening of "Daughters of the Forest" This Tuesday, May 22, 6-8pm

Secession Art & Design is honored to host our first film screening with Mission Bernal award-winning documentary filmmaker, educator, and mama of three Samantha Grant. "Daughters of the Forest" shares the powerful, uplifting story of a small group of girls in one of the most remote forests left on earth who attend a radical high school where they learn to protect the threatened forest and forge a better future for themselves.

Recently I won a grant through the Women's Entrepreneurship Fund. With this, I was able to purchase the necessary equipment to make my dream of showing indie films and documentaries a reality. Grant's film is a perfect start, sharing a story about our global community.

Thank you to the Mayor's office, Office of Economic Development, and MEDA for believing in my vision for a multi-use retail environment that encourages people to gather.  And thank you to Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema for your ongoing support.

Join us for our first film screening of many - you can RSVP on Facebook or just show up Tuesday evening. See you then!
