Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Joshua Coffy tribute and fundraiser

Joshua Coffy, a very talented artist, collaborator, and friend passed away this week. I will be donating 20% of art sales from our virtual gallery for the rest of the year to the GoFundMe campaign that has been set up for his family.

I feel fortunate that I have been in a position to support him on his artistic journey by inviting him to show with me at the gallery. He always said "Yes!" and showed up with hugs and jokes.

I conceived Secession as an experimental place where artists could grow together. Josh brought the magic when he collaborated with other artists. I fondly remember the shows he did with Heather Robinson and Dianne Hoffman. In these curations, I got to see the creative process and friendship that went into making all of this wonderful art.

Thank you, Josh, for being in my life for over a decade and for creating so much beauty.

Please purchase art or donate to his lovely wife and son so they can focus on healing instead of money worries.

XO, Eden
