Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

If paint could talk!

New art by Nikki SF at our pop-up May 4-7

Nikki SF creates art in her studio at Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco, with a view of the Bay, boats, and space enough to create her large-scale textured art. I love how the clothes she paints in look like a designer spent hours creating a high-end look. There were splashes of paint everywhere, and each painting had a story to tell.

Art studio visits fuel my soul and allow me to dive deep into an artist's work. They work in isolation most of the time, so having a curator take an interest in the process, exploration, and creativity behind the scenes also stimulates their experience. Experimenting and collaborating on a collection becomes part of the curation.

I look forward to showing you these paintings in person at our SF Pop-up on May 4-7 at 307 Cortland.
