Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

3D art & party at Secession Friday!

Join us for the opening party Friday, April 14, 6-9pm

Please join us on Friday, April 14, 6-9pm, to meet Andreina Davila and Ytaelena Lopez and experience in person how this art comes to life. You might find yourself putting on a pair of 3D glasses and diving into an encaustic abstract painting, having a conversation about the natural world and climate change, or drawn into the personal and political statement of strong figurative expressions. Two artists, three powerful walls. I am excited for you to see this show and support the arts.

Secession Art & Design’s spring art show, Sanctuary, is the artistic and political expression of Andreina Davila and Ytaelena Lopez. Both born in Venezuela, they connected in San Francisco where they started a collaboration called /eE.l.os/. Andreina creates encaustic landscapes that resemble topography of both land and water. Manipulating wax and mixing her own pigments, she plays with texture and how the light bounces off the surface.  Ytaelena explores the human soul through her figurative art.  Bursting with life, energy, and chaos, she visually tells stories of protest and peace throughout her art. Together they explore themes of climate change and its impact on the natural world.
