Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

 

Artist Talk & Podcast with Shane Izykowski

Secession Art & Design is hosting our first podcast, featuring an artist talk by Shane Izykowski about his solo series "Midnight Moon in the Garden of Goodbye." This is a rare opportunity to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of this show and its deeper meanings. The audio from the event will be recorded and released as an episode of the Drawing From Experience Podcast, and we welcome any audience member to ask questions live!

This show was created during a very special time in my life while I was pregnant and giving birth. A majority of this show was painted at night. Shane would paint for 3 hours, rest, then start again. He would text me with process photos in the middle of the night and early morning, knowing I was up feeding the baby. We installed this show just 8 days after Luca was born, and celebrated with an opening while the baby was under 2 weeks old. This dark, beautiful show will always be part of my birth story.
