Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

 

New art by Olena McMurtrey - preview it this weekend 12-5pm

Secession Art & Design is excited to feature "Synesthesia", our summer solo show by artist Olena McMurtrey. This exhibition explores the movement of the city, abstract landscapes, and waves painted in oil and resin. It is a deep dive into three bodies of work, giving you a birds-eye view into her color wheel of paint and imagination.

When you look at the world, how does it make you feel? This question is central to how Olena paints. The typically monochrome architecture of Sea Ranch turns into colorful whimsical houses that dance on the sea. Images of San Francisco street scenes become fragmented, with each day a different shade. Experiments in painting with resin and sand from Ocean Beach lead to abstract waves full of texture, evoking the movement and calm of the ocean.
