Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Bird & butterfly art fluttering around 307 Cortland

We're open 11am-7pm today, 11am-6pm tomorrow

Thank you to everyone who made it out to our Whiskey Eve last night. You warmed my heart to see so many familiar faces and hear your Secession stories from the last decade! Many of you went home with art and clothing from our collection and I am forever thankful to you!

Today's featured artists are Joshua Coffy and Silvi Alcivar. Josh created a small series of painted birds on Fast Passes. For most of my adult life, I had to buy this monthly pass to get on the MUNI. San Francisco made them really colorful and they always had a glittery strip down the middle. Fast Passes are long gone, but we can be nostalgic! Josh will also have lots of affordable prints for gifting.

Silvi's collection of poems with gold threads and butterflies really moved me. From far away, you see one butterfly wing in all its beauty, then as you get closer you dive into a poem that says so much in just a few lines. There are just five of these framed pieces, so stop by today before they are gone. Silvi will have lots of prints available too, perfect for sliding into a mailer to send to a friend or family member. A thoughtful gift!

See you soon at the gallery!
With gratitude,
Eden
